Leaving Unna

I have some good news and some bad news..the bad news is..I’m leaving Unna! I have met such life changing people here and will never forget my 7 months here. I made a lot of growth here and will always be grateful for ugly old Unna! But the good news is…I’m leaving!  I am going to a city called Feucht. (Foycht).  It means “moist” isn’t that terrible? And it is in southern Germany!! Sooo sick! I have heard nothing but great things about it! But the best part is…my area and Adam’s area are touching!! Adam got transferred to Nuremberg! Our areas are right next to each other and because he got called as a zone leader and I’m gonna be the district leader, we will be going on splits together!! Ahhh and we have to call each other every Sunday and talk about missionary stuff. Like we HAVE to, it’s a rule. And hopefully we will be spending plenty of P days together!!!!  I am so excited.  Just couldn’t be more excited!! Life is amazing!! Of course there will be new trials in my next area, but everything will all work out!! Just pray for me!!

So on Tuesday I was on a split with an elder who just talks about himself soo openly being way sick it’s really mind boggling to listen to. Anyways we went and had a lesson with a member family who can basically only speak Spanish but the spirit was still mega strong even as they struggled to express themselves in German. Their little apartment was so sad. I know no one thinks of Germany as a poor country of course, but some of the circumstances that people live in out here are so sad! Like the worst I’ve seen! All this family eats is this little marmalade on white bread. Like all day. But they are still way faithful and make it to church when they can! So many great examples of faith around me!

On Saturday we got the news I was leaving, so we went and mowed the Lipke’s lawn one last time before I left. I mowed a ginormous heart shape in their backyard. Then after that it was one of their kids’ birthdays and all the sudden these other Germans kids just show up at their house and like we had a little party and ate cake and played some games. It all just worked out so perfectly.

Then yesterday was really weird. My last Sunday here. It was hard telling the members I was leaving but it was really heart warming to see how sad some of them were. We have TONS of eating appointment tomorrow and Wednesday! But two of the sons of one of my favorite families here got the priesthood!! After almost 7 months of working with the dad and the kids, yesterday I was finally able to take part in them receiving the priesthood! So sweet! But the plan is I leave on Thursday for my new area, so shoot me some extra prayers this weekend!!

The main focus of my studies lately has again, been Love! Christ-like love is the most powerful tool humans can have. I have been reading so much from the scriptures, general conference talks, books from prophets and tons more. Christ-like love is so pure and so perfect! No one needs to earn His love, it’s just always there no matter the circumstance. Christ-like love doesn’t need a reason to love somebody or be kind, it is just pure love. And that’s what I’m trying to do.  Just love everybody because I should love everybody.

I was just looking through old letters this week and I found this Bday card from last year that the sisters in my MTC group gave me lol. It is a “Frozen” themed card and says “Happy Birthday Princess! Today is your day!” And has a pic of Elsa on it. Anyway it has some stickers in it and I found such a great one. It is a picture of a castle and says “Enjoy today and love!” That just so got me.  That is such a true and simple way to live and be happy.

I love you all and hope your week is great!

Enjoy today and Love!

Wanna Know Why I’m Smiling So Big?

IT SNOWED THIS WEEK!  MERRY CHRISTMAS!!  It was so crazy we had a blizzard. It was just one day, it was so much fun! All the snow is gone now but it was pretty sweet while it lasted! Germans don’t have Halloween really and don’t have Thanksgiving so people really are like already preparing for xmas!! I know it’s so great!  Anyway this week was coOOooOooOoool! I am just having too much fun out here.  It’s just a happy time of life right now!

On Wednesday to Thursday I was on a split with our Zone Leaders in Dortmund and that was a way good time! We just talked with everybody and had a good time doing it! We got some way some wayyyy solid potentials for them! I just love smiling at everybody! People look so confused when they look at me and I’m just smiling. Although I asked a guy on a train if he wanted to know why I was smiling so big and he said no. We made eye contact a few times and I wouldn’t break I just kept on looking and finally I got closer and was like “wanna know why I’m smiling so big” and he’s like “no” and I was just like “…oh..ok”. I had a great plan to tell him about the gospel and stuff and happiness but the guy wasn’t even curious why I was smiling. Germans, man I’ll tell ya. Ya just gotta love em.

Then Friday was also sick. So last month I was in Dortmund on a different split with a different zone leader and we were contacting and stuff and I talked to this guy named Richmond. He was way sick and he is from Ghana. Well that zone leader called me and told me that he actually lives in our area and gave me his number and we went and met with him!! He is sooo awesome! He has been in Germany for about a year now and he is just so darn faithful. Peeps from Ghana are so great. Seeing the place he lives in is so humbling. It’s literally half the size of my bedroom and he has a roommate. The door can’t even open all the way it’s so crowded. But he is still way grateful for all he has been given. And we talked with him and we committed him to baptism on December 19th!! He was way pumped and just wants to follow Christ. The only problem is he lives like right on the border of our area and we have to hand him off to the other elders…but still I was way pumped to see him again and challenge him to baptism!! Miracle!

Saturday was like basically just as sick. While I was doing personal study I just get this call from a random number and it’s some guy and he’s like “I wanna learn German” and I’m like “ok we can help where do you live?” Then he told us and we went and met him! Way random. BUT we get there and it happened to be in the same building as a member of ours and we asked him how he got our number and he showed us a flyer on the wall of the doorway. Apparently this member in our ward just like volunteered us and made a flyer.  It was pretty funny. Anyway, his name is Joe. He’s from Nigeria and he’s not a refugee.  He came here on an airplane! He’s wayyy smart and is going to school here to study business or something.  Anyway we start talking and I explain what we do as missionaries and he was way curious and we ended up talking and (like any other African we meet) he loves Jesus and has such a pure desire to follow him! We committed him to baptism on Dec. 19!! Dec 19 is the mission baptismal date so that’s why we’re doing that date, but it was so cool! Such a miracle like freal so random and so blessed just always experiencing the best of the best out here. We lost one investigator and gained another!

I have thought and studied a lot about love lately. Not romance love but like Christ-Like love. There are so many great examples in the scriptures of people just having pure love for others. It’s so inspiring! Just loving everybody. And that’s what I wanna do. I just wanna love everybody. Just be happy and love. That’s all.  Well I’m all good out here, just smiling through the day finding the good things in life. Thanks for your prayers and emails. Lots of love!

Thank You That the Sun is Shining

My family,

I heard such a great line in a prayer this week. The guy said, “danke dass der Sonne scheint.” That’s just “thank you that the sun is shining” idk I just loved that. Always good to be grateful for the everyday things. The happiest people in life are the ones who are grateful for the small things. Anyway this week was sweet!  I went on a split this week with a guy who’s from Canada, but then moved to Washington, then Colorado, and now Panama lol pretty crazy.  So he has a lot of just cool perspectives on things. And he talks to EVERYBODY lol like legit he did not let anyone pass us without talking to them. It was so cool I loved it! It was also a nice break for him. But all just good people I love meeting and having fun.

Then Thursday we had interviews with president and zone training! Zone training was on commandments and stuff and people were giving lessons on tithing and chastity and word of wisdom. Like of course that’s all extremely important, just not too exciting for missionaries to hear. But then lol I went out to my car and my missionary friends filled up my car with balloons for my bday lol. It was pretty good I’ll send a pic. People are so nice. They also bought me a one piece fox suit cause I sing “what does the fox say” so much lol. BUT THEN I opened up my bday package from mom and it was sooo sick! I LOVE the watch and the shoes! They are sooooo nice! Thank you thank you thank you!!

Then Saturday was just so nice. There was this young men’s activity that we got invited to and it was at some tree climbing park. It was pretty crazy. But we weren’t sure if we were allowed so we called out ZL’s and they said we could so we went and it was soooooo fun! They had like zip line type stuff it was so sick! Then we went to the Lipkes and did some service in the garden. Garden work has become like so routine on my mission lol it doesn’t really bother me that much anymore.  We’ve been trying to talk to a lot more people lately but boy is it tough to get people to talk back lol. I don’t get it like literally 10% of people might stop and tell us why they don’t have interest lol.  The rest just keep on walking. It can get discouraging but it’s all part of a mission.  The worst thing I could do is to stop talking to people lol so I guess I’ll just keep going!

I was reading in the Bible this week and I came across a scripture that really got me! It is in Matthew 19:16-22. It’s the story about a rich young ruler who come up to Jesus and tells him he’s keeping the commandments and asks what else he can do. And Jesus told him to sell all his nice things and follow him. And when the young guy heard that he was way sad, and walked away way bummed. In the moment I was reading that, I was just picturing myself the whole time! If Christ asked me to give up all of my Brooks Brothers stuff, how would I act?  I kinda think at first, I would act the same way. Kinda complaining and stuff. But it is so inspiring to think about! Such a long path of getting where we want to be lolol it’s great!

Life continues to be great out here! I love this place and couldn’t ask for more. Just a happy boy lol

Thanks for everything I’ll see ya next week!

One of the Best Days

Hey!  Just another sweet week out here. I’m just loving life rollin’ with the punches takin’ the lemons I’m getting.  I just like don’t have a lot to complain about. Just a great stage of life!

Well, anyway on Tuesday I was able to go on a split to a city called Hagen. It’s actually not bad but the elders there are struggling.  So it was nice to go in and just try and make an elder happy for a day. We just laughed and I just acted interested in whatever he was talking about and idk it’s been so sweet to get to know kids I would never have given a chance to before! Like we went contacting and just had such a great time and talked to some funny peeps. Ya just like can’t experience this type of stuff anywhere but a mission!

Thursday oh man it was so sad. So we had to take the car to get serviced and stuff and right before, I went to go fill up on gas. Well in Germany they don’t have the pumps with the handles where you can just squeeze and it locks till it’s filled. You have to squeeze it manually.  LOL, hard, I know. Well, I was just doing it and not really paying attention and all the sudden WHAM I accidentally pulled it out too far and gasoline just went flying. It splashed up against the car and just went everywhere. All over my pants, shoes, little on my face.  Just so bad. I felt so dumb there were just like 5 people around me watching and I had to walk in and pay like covered in gas the lady looked at me like I was mental. And I ruined that pair of pants.  Ugh. But it was a good experience LOL.

Friday really though was so sick. Like oh man I just can’t describe in words. But I’ll try. So two weeks ago we were just sitting at the apartment before stake conference and we had 15 mins before we had to go. Well there’s no point in wasting it and so I pull out our area book with tons of former investigators. I just flip to a random one and we call her. Her name is Longa Dressler and she answered and said we could meet. So, Friday afternoon we went over to her office. She is a psychologist and MEGA SMART. She is just finishing up her 3rd masters degree and she is a strategic coach. She works with like CEO’s and gives them advice and also with normal people and helps them like figure themselves out with different problems.  She is soooo cool!  Well we just kinda sat down in her office and idk the convo took off.  It was all such a miracle. She has been praying these past few months for God to tell her what to do. She said she didn’t want an angel, just a sign. It was funny cause she was telling us like “I have everything. I have a really well-paying job, I have a husband and daughter, I have studied all I want to study, and now, I just want God to use me for what he wants.”  She said she’s done all she wanted. It was one of the most inspiring conversations I’ve ever had. Her daughter is just leaving for college and she is just approaching her 50’s. As we talked about the gospel, everything we brought up she was just like “that makes sense” “well ya I hope so” or “oh I like that”.   LOL it was so much fun! Well all that doesn’t mean that she is getting baptized already just cause she still believes in her church and we will for sure continue to work with her! But my other fav part was this. When we called her and she agreed to meet she was like “ya and maybe I can help you too!” And ha I had never had anybody say that to me before.  I thought it was interesting. Well as we finished up the lesson, I was just like “Longa, you said that maybe you can help us…” And she was like “uh oh” lol it was so funny. But I was like “Longa, I’ve never really wanted to be a good person before. And now, I want to. How have you became and stayed such a great person?” And she continued to tell me experiences of her child hood and she talked about how most of all, Christ is her inspiration.  That in the scriptures Christ talks with everybody. He doesn’t just talk to the popular people or the good looking people or just the sick people or the poor. He talked to and helped everybody. And she said “I can do that too”. That line touched me so much. She talked to me for a half hour about how we go about not judging others and truly being good. It was really like a life changing experience haha. Like it was the best birthday I could ask for. I’m not 100% sure what will happen with Longa, but she taught me SO much that I left will never forget.  Ha and at the end she was just asking about like what we do for fun and I never like think about how weird it sounds until I say it and I was just like “well like we go bowling and play UNO…” Lol she thought that was so funny.  She like “well if you ever need someone to marry just ask me and I’ll give you my daughter lol” she was just really impressed with everything we had to say about the church and stuff. Freal one of the best days of my mission!
